Creating a close relationship with clients led to an outstanding 2020

To say that 2020 was rocky would be putting it mildly. Now think about being a small business that didn’t want to lay off employees. Add in that this small business’s primary function was to provide a service in other people’s home? Now imagine that this small business finished 2020 with its best year to date in terms of sales, brought on two additional employees, and has hired another two employees to help achieve greater growth in 2021. This was the 2020 story of Birdie Brennan, Founder and Chief Dream Designer, of Birdie Brennan Custom Closets (BBCC).
“I have served the Central Ohio region as a professional organizer since 2000, and I have never seen the week-to-week swings that 2020 was throwing at us. Our business is built on having a close relationship with the client and to put a window (real or Zoom) between the two sides was incredibly difficult. We feel incredibly fortunate to have a strong team in place that we could trust to make the right decisions. Of course, it always comes down to talking to the client and making their dreams a reality.” Birdie Brennan was the first Certified Professional Organizer® in Central Ohio and a founding member of NAPO (National Association of Productivity and Organizing) Ohio and credits her experience as being key to navigating an uncertain present.
Amid the supply chain delays and uneven schedules, Birdie and her team were able to bring on two additional employees to focus on running the warehouse and helping with installations. Now the BBCC team is up to two full-time crews that will hopefully allow clients to get their dream closet (or garage, or kitchen pantry, or laundry) installed more quickly.
From beginning to end, proactive communication and adding value for the client has always been the mantra of BBCC. John Brennan, Birdie’s husband and self-appointed Hand of the Queen, maintains that the adding value approach differentiates BBCC from the market. “Some of the supply chain delays have forced us to delay installation or finish at a later date. Drawer pulls have been a common accessory that has been delayed, but we always go above and beyond to communicate with the client and make sure they are 110% happy. Walking into an organized and sleek closet is a great way to start your day,” John says.
2021 is going to be focused on additional sales growth for BBCC. Birdie sees working with construction and home builders to add additional value to a new home or condo. To facilitate the projections, Birdie has hired Rob Humphrey as a full-time salesperson. BBCC has also brought on Jonathan Krabill to assist in all areas of the company from sales and marketing to setting and achieving financial goals.
“It is a credit to the entire team that we are poised for a great 2021. It also helps that our clients love to tell others about their experience with BBCC. It would be impossible in marketing dollars to match the love we receive from our clients…and we are very thankful to them for the opportunity to come into their homes and help them create their dream closet.” Birdie shares.
