This is Birdie Brennan’s very own personal closet; perfectly organized, right down to the shopping bag on the floor. One thing that is very helpful, especially this time of year when spring cleaning is upon us, is to keep a shopping bag or bin in the closet for easy donating. If you put something on that doesn’t quite fit anymore or is out of style, throw it in the bag! At the end of the month, take the bag to donate and make room in your closet for your new summer wardrobe.

NBC 4’s Mikaela Hunt talks to Columbus’s own professional organizer Birdie Brennan and her client Debbie about taking the stress out of the holidays. Even though they are over, you can use the same principals- make deliberate choices and sometimes perfect isn’t worth the effort.
Spend some time in your kitchen. Make everything that you can make ahead. A cookie exchange is a great way to maximize your time in the kitchen and a cookie baking party is a fun way of enjoying friends and family while doing a holiday chore. Also, remember to get plenty of sleep and eat as healthy as possible during all of the festivities! Eat, sleep & be merry!
I love wrapping gifts while watching my favorite Christmas movies. It puts me in the mood and when the movie is over the presents are wrapped! Make sure you have everything you need when you start- gift tags, scissors, tape, pens, wrap, ribbon, etc.
Are the holidays stressing you out? Be sure to watch Birdie Brennan Professional Organizers and one of her clients talk to NBC4′s Mikaela Hunt about how to stay stress free and organized! It will be on tomorrow early early morning on NBC4 Columbus!
It is time to decorate your tree! Can you combine a neighborhood get-together with a tree decorating party? At least enlist some help from family and friends, put some Christmas music on and have fun!
It is time to think about your gift list. Can you buy online? Do you have to ship some of your presents? Also, think about giving adventures instead of things! Designate a spot in your home to put all the gifts. That way you aren’t stuffing items here and there only to find a missed gift in July!
Pull out your decorations and decide what goes where. Decide on your timeline if it is better to schedule an afternoon to decorate all at once or if you should do one room at a time. When you are done; do you love it? If so, take a picture and store it with the decorations to help with next year. Are there some that don’t make the cut? It is a good idea to donate them now, so someone else can love them!
